East-West

The MetroRapid East-West will connect Tampa International Airport, the Westshore Business District and the HART Netpark bus transfer center at Hillsborough Avenue and 56th Street, with connections to the North-South line at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. HART started the Preliminary Development and Environmental (PD&E) Study of MetroRapid East-West in October 2011.

Funding:

Hillsborough County Community Investment Tax is funding all phases of the MetroRapid North-South project and the PD&E Study of the MetroRapid E-W. HART is pursuing additional funding for the final design and construction phases of MetroRapid E-W. HART is proud to report that a June 2012 review of the original project estimate of $3 million has determined that this project is under budget by $1.1 million. This funding has been reallocated back to Hillsborough County for its infrastructure needs, if desired. CIT funding is only earmarked for capital improvement costs, and cannot be used for operational costs, such as bus routes.

Two open houses have been held to provide the community opportunities to learn more about this project. A third open house is scheduled for August/September.
