
Community Survey shows support for Transit
In the summer of 2009, HART conducted a survey of Hillsborough County residents to measure their opinions of HART as an organization and of the role of transit in our community. The results of the survey were reported to the HART Board of Directors on Monday, September 28, 2009.
Results of the survey included:
- Traffic congestion is seen as the most important issue facing Hillsborough County
- 65% of respondents agree that having transit was important to the county
- Transit is the public’s first option to address congestion, building some form of rail
- Respondents expressed interest in expanding bus and paratransit services
- 79% stated that the county needs to make a significant commitment to expand transit
- 67% support a 1% sales tax to improve transit and roads
- 33% would definitely vote in favor; 34% say they would probably vote in favor
- The public image of HART and its services has improved since a 2006 survey
